PHILOSOPHIES OF EDUCATION
Literature Approach
A literature approach to education is just what it sounds like. It is the process of learning all subjects through reading literature. Believe it or not, there are math literature books out there as well! Literature proves to be a great approach for homeschooling several, multiple aged children at once. All children can participate in the literature and discussions that follow.
Unit Studies
Unit studies are an integrated approach to education and very popular with homeschooling. Instead of studying five different subjects separately, a unit study focuses on one phenomenon or event and is taught by reading, writing, math, science, and social studies activities. This is a more holistic approach to education because just as in real life, all disciplines intertwine.
Unschool
Unschool has received mixed reviews over the years and has made a comeback recently. This controversial form of homeschooling is centered on the child learning from their own sense of curiosity. Most unschooled students don’t follow a set curriculum. Exploring ones interests until they are not interested anymore, is the key to the Unschool philosophy.
